Welcome to Region VI of the National Association for Black Veterans.

“Improving the Quality of life for All Veterans”
“No Veterans Left Behind”
Greetings to all members, veterans, families, supporters, and visitors of NABVETS Region VI:
As we move through this season of reflection, celebration, and awareness, we proudly recognize several important observances that hold deep meaning within our military and veteran communities.
First, we honor the birthday of the United States Army, established on June 14, 1775. For more than two centuries, the brave men and women of the Army have defended our nation with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication. We salute every Soldier—past and present—whose service has preserved the freedoms we cherish today.
We also commemorate Juneteenth, a historic celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress. Juneteenth reminds us of the enduring struggle for equality and justice in America, while also recognizing the strength and contributions of African Americans throughout our nation’s history, including their distinguished service in the Armed Forces. As veterans, we understand the importance of unity, dignity, and continued progress for all people.
On Women Veterans Day, observed on June 12, we proudly recognize the extraordinary contributions of women who have answered the call to serve our nation. Women veterans continue to break barriers, lead with distinction, and inspire future generations through their commitment, professionalism, and sacrifice. NABVETS Region VI remains committed to honoring and supporting all women veterans whose service strengthens both our military and our communities.
Additionally, June 27 marks National PTSD Awareness Day, a time dedicated to increasing understanding and compassion surrounding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many veterans, service members, and families are impacted by the invisible wounds of war and trauma. We encourage open conversations, continued education, and support for those seeking healing and recovery. No veteran should ever feel alone in their journey.
These observances remind us not only of our shared history, but also of our shared responsibility—to support one another, uplift our communities, and continue serving beyond the uniform.
On behalf of NABVETS Region VI leadership, thank you for your continued dedication, service, and commitment to our mission. Together, we remain stronger through unity, advocacy, and fellowship.
May God bless our veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and the United States of America.
Respectfully, Irvin Lyons Jr., Region VI Commander

Check on a veteran, we are our brothers and sisters keeper. Wellness checks are encouraged as we stay connected with all veterans. Our veterans are in need of your assistance in their mental health and well-being, reach out to one or a few and take a moment to listen to them (you may never know how important this is in reference to every veteran).
